No Rest For The Wicked

Behind The Song:

The song is an expression of rage against the accusers of the witch trials. I wanted to create a song that really encapsulated the outrage I felt at there being no justice for the accused.

While researching this project i did a lot of site visits and pressed flowers from each site. I wanted to include that imagery in this song and speak to the ideas of women being delicate like flowers. The idea of training flowers to grow how you want them, killing ones that don’t ‘fit’ your garden, inspecting them, using chemicals to make them grow stronger and pruning flawed petals or leaves was all something I felt could relate to how women have been groomed for generations to act, look and be a certain way. Since the witch trials, women have been trained to be the perfect flowers.

This song also reflects on the saying ‘no rest for the wicked’ and asks where these accusers are buried, to disturb their rest, because the accused were not the wicked ones.

Lyrics

Verse:
Pray on the weak

Pick out the weeds

Pry up out roots

Under your boots

Cut off the growth

Hide the truth

Sew the fear

Year after year

Pre-Chorus:

Tell me was it worth it

Tell me did you like it

Chorus:

If there's no rest for the wicked

Then where do you lie

If there's no rest for the wicked

Then untie this pyre

Verse:

Tied us down

Pruned the flaws

Set our course

Inspected the spots

Ripped them out

Poisoned our soil

Just to stop

A potential plot

Pre-chorus:

Tell me was it worth it

Tell me did you like it

Chorus:

If there's no rest for the wicked

Then where do you lie

If there's no rest for the wicked

Then untie this pyre

If there's no rest for the wicked

Then where do you lie

If there's no rest for the wicked

Then untie this pyre
